Yellow Door is a beautifully restored early 18th century two bedroom cottage, in the oldest part of Kirkcudbright.

Located down the picturesque cobbled Greengate Close which runs off the High Street. Benefitting from a good degree of privacy and a peaceful setting but at the same time in a central and convenient location for the amenities of the bustling harbour town of Kirkcudbright.

Yellow Door also has its own attractive garden area at the bottom of the close with views across the rooftops of this distinctive picturesque town. The garden area has a paved seating area and a sun house. Also in the garden is a shared drying area.

Yellow Door is a beautifully presented 300 year old Grade B listed cottage which has been internally upgraded to a high standard, retaining many original features.

Picturesque Greengate Close

Yellow Door and its neighbouring cottages, Red Door, Blue Door, Green Door and Lavender Door are steeped in history, and were mostly occupied by artists who rented their properties from Jessie M King.

Yellow Door and its neighbouring cottages, Red Door, Blue Door, Green Door and Lavender Door are steeped in history, all occupying the same cobbled wynd on which illustrator Jessie M King and her husband stained- glass artist E A Taylor used to live. The cottages and gardens still look as traditional as they would have at that time.

Greengate Close was mostly occupied by artists who rented their properties from Jessie M King, including her niece Dorothy Rey who stayed in Yellow Door and who was renowned for owing a pet owl. The Owl entered Yellow Door through the little opening single pane window, which is still part of the living room window. The Greengate Close was used as one of the settings in the Dorothy L Sayers film “Five Red Herrings”.

Set amidst beautiful coastal countryside, Kirkcudbright enjoys a sheltered position in the estuary of the River Dee on the north Solway shore.
